What types of volunteers are there?
Pre-Games Volunteers refers to volunteers engaged in roles between April and September 2019.
Games Time Volunteers refers to volunteers engaged in a role that is not directly related to a specific sport. Examples include accreditation assistant, information booth, operations and logistics.
Sport Volunteers refers to a volunteer performing a role that supports the delivery of the sporting competition. Sport Volunteers are recruited directly by the Sport Convenor managing each competition. If you have a particular skill and are interested in assisting with a sport please select 'Sport' as your preferred area in the registration form.
Where will volunteers be based?
Pre-Games volunteers will predominantely be based at the 17AMG office on Halifax Street in the CBD.
Games Times volunteers will be based at the Games Village (Adelaide Convention Centre) and Games Logistics Centre (TBC).
Sport Specific volunteers will be based at the venue being utilised for their sport competition. Head to our Sport Information page for details.
I’m not available every day, can I still apply?
Absolutely! We appreciate all the volunteer assistance we can get! However, we do ask that volunteers be available for at least five shifts throughout the Games.
How many volunteer roles are available?
17AMG requires up to 1,500 volunteers including Pre Games, Games Time and Sport Specific roles.

I have been asked by a Sport Convenor to apply to be a sports volunteer for the Games, but I can’t find where to apply online. What do I do?
Your Sport Convenor should email you a direct link to register as a Sport Specific volunteer. If you have not received this email, please contact your Sport Convenor directly.
Why do you require my personal information?
Personal information is collected to review an applicant’s skills, experience, availability and suitability to volunteer at 17AMG. It is also important so we are able to get in touch with you when needed, and keep you informed. Failure to provide personal information requested may result in our inability to process your application.
How do I know if my application has been received?
You will receive an acknowledgment email confirming that your application has been received. To avoid missing this email and further correspondence from us, please check your Junk Folder and update your mail settings to accept emails from us.
Can I save the application and come back to it?
No. The application will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The only external item you will need is your driver license number if you have one.
Can I apply with a friend and/or family member?
All applicants must apply online individually. We are unable to accept joint or group applications. If you wish to be placed to volunteer with someone please indicate their full name when requested in the registration form and we will do our best to accommodate.
What should I do if my personal details change after I apply?

My situation has changed and I can no longer volunteer. What should I do?
We appreciate that despite your best intentions, sometimes circumstances do change. To ensure we can provide other volunteers with the opportunity to volunteer, it’s important that you inform us as soon as possible by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
What are the benefits of being a volunteer?
The benefits of volunteering for this fantastic event are numerous. From new friendships, memories, and work experience to the most important benefit, having fun!
Will I be given everything I need to perform my role?
Yes. AMG will provide induction and training, a uniform, accreditation, food and refreshments during your shift and any equipment you may require. We aim to support you as much as possible to perform your role to the best of your abilities with confidence.
Will I get paid?
Volunteers are unpaid members of the 17AMG Workforce team. Therefore, as a volunteer you do not receive wages, fees, honorariums, tips, gratuities or reimbursements for the work you undertake for the event.
How will I be assessed for a volunteer role?
Volunteer roles are primarily allocated based on your motivation to volunteer, current/past involvement in sport, experience as a volunteer, experience specific to your selected area and your availability.
When will I know if I have been selected to be a volunteer?
All volunteers will be contacted to complete a phone interview at their convenience. If you have not been contacted by the end of August, please email email@example.com
How do I accept my volunteer role?
Once you have received your ‘email of offer’ please confirm your acceptance of your role via return email.
When will I receive my volunteer roster?
Volunteer rosters will be completed by September.
When will my volunteer shifts occur?
Volunteer shifts times and lengths will vary to meet different Games area and sport specific demands. Shifts will include weekdays, weekends and public holidays. During Games time there may also be some early starts or late finishes. If you have specific requests in regards to your shift allocation, please ensure this is discussed during your phone interview.
Why do I need to attend training?
Training is mandatory for all volunteers to ensure you have the necessary skills, confidence and information to perform your assigned role effectively and safely. Training may be more extensive for some roles. Further information will be communicated to successful volunteers after their role has been accepted.
When will training take place?
Training will take place throughout August and September. Volunteers will be provided with a choice of several session options to ensure it fits in within your existing commitments.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT
Will accommodation and transport be provided for volunteers?
AMG is unable to provide accommodation or transport for volunteers. To be considered for a volunteer role you must have your own accommodation and transport for training and allocated shifts.
Will volunteer car parking be provided for my shifts?
No. 17AMG venues have limited capacity for parking and available spots will often incur a fee. 17AMG are unable to reimburse parking costs. Further information on parking will be provided at your venue training.
What uniform is required?
AMG will provide a shirt and hat. Volunteers are required to wear black bottoms and closed in shoes.
Where will I collect my uniform from?
Uniforms will be distributed at Induction Training in August and September.

Why are Security Background Checks conducted?
Security checks are conducted to ensure a safe and secure 17AMG for all volunteers, staff, competitors and spectators.
