The Heart Foundation is committed to getting the 17th Australian Masters Games participants active and educated about their heart health as the official charity partner of the Games, set to take place in exactly six months from 5-12 October in Adelaide.
Through its role, the Heart Foundation will promote its flagship physical activity program, Heart Foundation Walking, and encourage all participants aged over 45 to have a heart health check with their GP to find out their risk of heart disease.
“One of the primary aims of the Australian Masters Games is to increase physical exercise of people who are over the age of 30,” Australian Masters Games General Manager Gary O’Donnell said.
“Having the Heart Foundation on board as the official charity partner helps this initiative and is beneficial for participants well beyond the Games.”
This partnership will help raise participants’ awareness of their heart health by encouraging them to visit the Heart Age Calculator on the Heart Foundation’s website and recommending that everyone aged over 45 ask their GP for a heart health check.
Along with encouraging participants to learn more about their heart health the Heart Foundation will also be running their free Heart Foundation Walking program during the Games, adding to the fun of the week-long festival of sport.
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia's largest free walking community, with ongoing assistance, training, support and resources provided to partners who set up and lead walking groups in their communities.
Just like the Australian Masters Games, the Heart Foundation Walking Program aims to embrace all levels of fitness and different lifestyles, making this a perfect partnership for better health.
“Walking offers the perfect way to get physically active in a friendly, fun and social environment,” Heart Foundation General Manager Heart Health Bill Stavreski said.
“In the last 23 years we’ve helped more than 100,000 people walk their way to better health.”
Participants can also contribute a donation to the Heart Foundation upon entering for the Games.
